Can I rent and drive a van with a regular car driver's license?
Yes, for private vans (white or blue license plates) provided by the company, such as the Hyundai H-1 or Toyota Commuter, you can use a regular private driver’s license to rent and drive legally. A public driver’s license (Type 2) is not required.
Can vans normally use the expressway or enter parking buildings?
Vans can use expressways normally, but you must be careful about the height of parking buildings. Especially the Toyota Commuter (high roof) model, which has a height of approximately 2.3 meters, may not be able to enter some parking buildings with low ceilings. As for the Hyundai H-1 or Alphard models, they can park normally like regular cars.
How much is the security deposit for a self-drive van rental?
The security deposit starts at 10,000 – 20,000 Baht, depending on the van model, which is slightly higher than sedans due to the higher value of the vehicle. The company will refund the full deposit after the vehicle condition has been inspected upon return.
Is there a limit on the number of passengers?
For safety and to comply with traffic laws, it is recommended to carry no more passengers than the registered seating capacity. For example, the Hyundai H-1 should not exceed 11 seats, and the Toyota Commuter should not exceed 12-14 seats. Exceeding these limits may affect insurance coverage in the event of an accident.
Is a self-drive van fuel-efficient?
Modern diesel vans (Commonrail engines) have a relatively economical fuel consumption rate, averaging 10-14 kilometers/liter depending on driving habits, payload, and traffic conditions.
